There is a small area in Valtellina where the ground becomes steep, the sun strikes with no mercy and the vine fights to exist. This is the “Inferno”, which translates into a wine that bears the name of these fiery floats and rewards the sacrifice with a noble and indomitable character. The chiavennasca, precious descendant of the nebbiolo, develops between the stone walls and rocks that are heated in the sun and cool down with the evening, perfecting its character. Lorenzo Mazzucconi has selected this arduous land, he worked it with dedication, he made it his own. In the historic dairy of the village he has created his cellar, which is always open and self-managed, where you can buy wines and food from his small production. The Inferno di Pizzo Coca is a wine that you do not reveal to anyone, but who knows how to appreciate, it’ll be speechless. If you pass by Ponte di Valtellina, go and explore his small shop.
Settled in Ponte in Valtellina (SO), Pizzo Coca winerys’ aims high in terms of quality and sustainability, just like the mountain from which it takes its name. Lorenzo Mazzucconi, after having worked in some important wineries around Italy, decided to come to Valtellina to take care of this land that gives excellent fruits. Initially it adopts a wineyard in the area of Dossi Salati, from which the Riserva Grumello Pizzo Coca is produced. Then he looks for “home” and in the old dairy of the village inaugurates its cellar and started the conversion to organic production. Now he manages almost two hectares of wineyards.
The colour is ruby red tending to garnet; the smell is characteristic: persistent, subtle and pleasant. The taste is dry, velvety, harmonious and slightly tannic.
